My mom in the day

Back when the family had a boat they used to go fishing in the Canadian San Juan Islands and even further north. Almost all that time I was in the Navy or living in California so never went with them. Today is Nancy's birthday and she's in a retirement home so no more fishing.

Yes this is our road in the rainy season, sometimes better and sometimes worse. The water is looking pretty clear here. Nahima always has her head out the window looking at the water as we pass. When it's clear there are little-little fish (pescaditos) darting around. I assumed they would be baby frogs (polliwogs) because you can hear the frogs chirping on the side of the road. But no, these are very small, thin, fish looking things that don't seem to grow up like a frog would. So if you have fish ..... you have to go fishing and that's what the girls are doing

Everybody's fishing Sunday

I swear that every fisherman in the area was at the West Melaque beach yesterday both in boats and from shore. That could also include the 1000+/- pelicans and other birds fishing their way. Supposedly they were stocking up with bait for night fishing but I've never seen 20+ pangas lining the beach. Between lines in the water, nets thrown from boats, banana boat rides and diving birds it was not a good idea to venture very far out.

Eight of us went from Pinal and met up with Glen from Barra at Sirenitas. Bought a kilo of shrimp and made a large bowl of ceviche on the beach. It was overcast all day and the ocean seemed cooler. A welcome day away from the sun

Well setting up an inflatable is not my favorite thing, I'd much prefer trailering it and just dropping it in the water. Neither is bouncing along at a rather fast trolling speed in a 10ft light boat. Besides that it was good to be out on the water and we had a really good time.

We caught a Barrilete right out of the Barra de Navidad harbor and we let it go. They were jumping everywhere so thought we might be pulling in a bunch. Out around the point to Playa de Cocos and then up to Cuastecomate. No more hits on that run heading west. On the way back closer to shore we had 5-6 strikes and at the mouth of the bay Ron hooked one. We first thought another Barrilete but then it jumped. Barrilete's don't jump.

With a very light pole and tackle Ron wasn't able to muscle it in so played it for about a half hour. We weren't sure it was a Dorado until it surfaced close to the boat. It was a female so didn't have the big head that males do ... but was about a meter long and weighed 8-9 kilos.

It made for a wonderful dinner made by Dora and her mom. I brought my neighbors so the kids could play in the hotel pool. We watched the sunset and headed home very full.

Si yes, Si no and fishing

Well Ron changes his mind a lot. We both liked the lot below and thought it had possibilities. Problem is his wife doesn't agree ... so they are looking at a view lot on the west end. But just a lot, no house, no nada ... so much for Ron's fishing crash pad in Melaque.

Ron brought his Zodiac down, we have a trailer that's a little small but it does sound like some fishing time is near. He's gonna be up in San Miguel so I just need to find time away from the house project. Hope we'll see some of this soon ... but bottom fishing or diving is fine with me
