El Día Del Niño

Kinder parade around Jaluco

The band they danced to later followed them around Jaluco

A Rodeo dance

Girls waiting for parade with stick horses

A Chilindrina party the next day

El Día Del Niños is tomorrow the 30th but all the schools celebrated early. Jaluco Kinder had their parade Wednesday followed by a Chilindrina party yesterday. I'd never heard of Chilindrina either but I'll let you look it up. It's the name of a popular childrens TV character. The parents made the stick horses the day before and a few made the green and yellow Chilindrina costumes.

The Secondaria had an all day party yesterday and I haven't seen any pictures of that yet but maybe some will pop up on Facebook. No school  for anybody today.

Birds and the bees

Hummingbird at rest

Bees in the palm with cold pool behind

Roseate Spoonbill over by the Prepa

This was going to be a not very much happening around here post although two hummingbirds were very busy in my Moringa tree. Busy enough one had to take a break. I'm kind of surprised they don't come around the palm flowers because the bees sure love them. Last night we had a small wind storm that blew over parts of the Moringa, a Sugarcane and filled the pool with leaves and pieces of my palapa.

I mentioned a cold pool because every morning for the last week the local weather site shows the morning temperature is 61 degrees which is as cold as it's been all year. It's the end of April if someone didn't notice.

My cat's newest thing is being successful at catching small iguanas. Frogs and lizards have been easy for him in the past but iguanas have been too wary and fast. This past week he killed 3. None larger than a foot and a half long but pretty big for my cat. They live in the lot next door but like to sun themselves on top of my wall. Of course the live ones or dead ones have to be brought for me to see.

Yesterday morning neighbors came over for a ride to the Jaluco Kindergarten because the kids were dressed as cowboys and girls and had stick horses parents had made the day before. Also for me and my camera for some fotos for Facebook. They marched all around Jaluco followed by a band. That post will have to wait.

Mating Season ?

This guy is in love with himself in a mirror maybe

Flies over to the palm

Around to the kitchen window

Looking in the mirror

I heard this ruckus outside my front door and I find this yellow bird pecking at my window. The glass is very dark and looks like a mirror from the outside. All I can figure is he's in love or angry at that other bird in the reflection. He was talking like he was angry or excited.

Every time I'd get right in front of him he'd fly over to the palm so no real clear pictures. Then he went around to my kitchen window which has a screen so don't think there was a reflection. Finally, he came back and I got the almost side view. He had a partner who stayed out in the garden and they both hung around for over a half hour.

No 24/7 Emergency Medical here

What a night. I awoke at about 1:30 AM with a neighbor tapping on my kitchen window. His friend down the street was stung by a scorpion and wanted a ride to Centro de Salud. What am I gonna say, NO?

What none of us knew was that Centro de Salud is not open 24/7 ..... so after checking Melaque we made the drive to Barra and the same thing. Closed up tight. Now that leaves me wondering what their days and hours of operation are.

Hurricane Hunter making the rounds

May 15th is the start of the Pacific season

They are in Cabo right now and should be in Vallarta next week. Shortly after that they'll be at the Manzanillo airport (ZLO). They have an open house in each city they visit .... but we went a few years ago and the line was a mile long and mostly in the sun.

That plane flew through the heart of Hurricane Patricia last year and recorded it as the most powerful on record. Just over a month for the Pacific season to start and Atlantic starts the 1st of June.

It's pool time again

Nahima y mom

Water was nice

Or at least I made it so by putting up the pool again.  The fotos were today but Nahima even wanted to play in it yesterday with only a foot of water. Street water last night filled it about half way and I pumped a bunch out of the cistern in the morning.  2-3 young girls heard about it and they want to come over later.  Looks like my pool will be the center of attention for another summer.

About a month more until Eastern Pacific hurricane season starts which means anything can happen after that. The storm season drama will start then and in the mean time we'll enjoy the pool and hopefully for months after.

An all volunteer garden

Beautiful chard

Fruit trees

I planted all kinds of things in that bed where the chard is last summer and nothing turned into food except the cherry tomatoes. After cleaning up the bed and wondering what to do next I noticed a small but unmistakable chard leaf had popped up. I've been babying it and eating it ever since. All I can think of is chard  and maybe many leafy vegetables do better in cooler temperatures.

The fruit trees all came up from the compost but except for the papaya they were moved for more space. The citrus on the left  (we're unsure which) is almost a year old. The 3 papayas are just a few months old. The day before yesterday Lorena noticed a new plant and said it was a Guayaba so we moved that over to the lower right. I would have just pulled it up but Hugo confirmed it's Guayaba. A couple of years ago some kids from the Prepa came around with plants as an assignment. I put a Carambola in my yard but had them plant a Guayaba across the street in front of a neighbors but it's not being watered or cared for. Now I have one !!  Love the flavor in liquados but the seeds can break a tooth.

Muchos fotos con mucho fun

Nahima woke the whole house up early because this is the day we promised to go to the "toboganes" or water park. The morning was totally overcast and I thought with these cold nights and no sun it would be too cold. Actually, the water was good and the only "chilly" was from the breeze coming off the bay when you got out. It cleared up nicely about 1PM. Nahima shivered most of the day but always wanted someone else to go back in with her.

I went down both of those slides below with Nahima on my lap and she had fun but didn't want to do it again. Just "swimming" was her thing which was actually crawling in the shallow water. Euriel even came with us on this which is rare and Yare as well.  We picked up a chicken dinner at Caliman and extra Coke and some beer. We'll go more often when the summer temperatures arrive. But I will have my pool up again with no admission .... so we'll see.

From our table

Yep ... that's me with Nahima in my lap

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
