Sisters on the computer

When the girls and mom are over using my "automatic" washing machines, Yari the 12 year old likes to kill time using my Internet. Facebook is popular and less expensive on a computer than her Cel Fone. This is the first time Nahima, aged 5, has been really interested. Yari does her homework (a lot of it) on that computer. She knows how to plug in the USB printer, load paper, use Google search and cut and paste text and graphics into MS Word to print.

Nahima has been wiggling her already broken front tooth for two days and talking about putting it under her pillow in a small plastic bag. I forgot about Raton Perez but recognized the tooth under the pillow. Got a phone call at 8 this morning from Nahima wished me a happy birthday and told me her tooth fell out last night.  I think she's hoping I'll be a tooth fairy too.

The Ratoncito Pérez or Ratón Pérez (Pérez Mouse in English) is a figure popular in Spanish and Hispanic American cultures, similar to the tooth fairy, originating in Madrid in 1894. As is traditional in some English-speaking countries, when a child loses a tooth it is customary for him or her to place it under the pillow, so that Ratoncito Pérez will exchange it for a gift. The tradition is almost universal in Spanish cultures, but takes different forms in different areas. He is known as "Ratoncito Pérez" in Spanish speaking countries, with the exception of some regions of Mexico, Peru and Chile, where he is called "el Ratón de los Dientes" (The Tooth Mouse), and in Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay and Colombia, he is known simply as "El Ratón Pérez".

So I bought myself a printer because the refills on my old Lexmark printers weren't lasting very long and  it's Manzanillo for new ones. Lexmark also does not make WIN7 drivers for old printers for my laptop.  The kids are having more and more homework and I don't want to take them to an Internet Cafe just to print. I thought the printer price of $800mx was almost good at Bodega Aurrera but when she scanned it it came out $990. Their excuse was the $800 is an expired promotion price so take it or leave it.  Oh well !!

Almost in a jam

The real jam was paper in my printer. When I was working I used to maintain (with some help) 300+ computers and 40+ printers of all sizes ... and never ran into this problem that I remember. I'm printing out six months of bank statements and a few more things for Immigration but could not get past the first page without a jam. Luckily I bought another printer but ended up with the same problem. Tried another cartridge, same thing. Only thing left was the paper and I had an unopened package. Problem solved, but I'd never run into paper that is too thick or too stiff ... whatever it was? So I can visit Immigration with everything in order.

The almost jam was being out of yogurt for my daily breakfast of fruit and yogurt. My guests from Jocotepec had made a huge amount of ceviche and when they left filled up two of the old yogurt containers with the leftovers. They didn't tell me so I thought I had plenty. One real container left and enough till I buy some more ... and the ceviche is good.

My neighbors are in a jam since Hugo hasn't been paid for his work since the beginning of December. Can't imagine an employer not paying just before Christmas and now it's the new year and they have rent to pay and a TV satellite bill. Two trips to Banco Elektra for a loan and they said maybe next week. I finally loaned them some money to avoid a real jam.

Other than that, things are drying out after 4 days of rain ... and I'm out almost every night with a flashlight and my poison powder in a battle with leaf eating ants. Not just my place, tho I do have the tastiest plants, they are all over the neighborhood.

I almost forgot that with Internet Explorer I can't upload fotos to these Blogs. I Googled it and sure enough it's effecting all versions of IE. Firefox works so I switch over for fotos. I have to use IE for compatability issues with my web site but am finding more and more reasons to stop using it.
