El Día Del Niño

Kinder parade around Jaluco

A Chilindrina party the next day

El Día Del Niños is tomorrow the 30th but all the schools celebrated early. Jaluco Kinder had their parade Wednesday followed by a Chilindrina party yesterday. I'd never heard of Chilindrina either but I'll let you look it up. It's the name of a popular childrens TV character. The parents made the stick horses the day before and a few made the green and yellow Chilindrina costumes.

The Secondaria had an all day party yesterday and I haven't seen any pictures of that yet but maybe some will pop up on Facebook. No school  for anybody today.

Carnaval Barra de Navidad

I usually don't have time for parties like this, especially when they are in the middle of the week. Yesterday was Fat Tuesday so during the week it is. I was in Emergency "Fix my Car" mode and the parade passed by the mechanic shop on the highway in Melaque while I waited for my car to be finished. It's about kids and for kids so I have no wise words or history. They have fun and that is about it. Enjoy the fotos

Pinal Villa Fiesta

Last night was the finale of the annual 7 day celebration in honor of the local patron saint. All week long surrounding communities paraded into Pinal with a small band, dance group and maybe the town princess. Each parade rather small and non-impressive. All that ended this weekend with music, dancing and food on Saturday and well over a thousand last night for the castillo.

I've heard polka like music in Mexico before but never seen anyone dance to it. Last night there were 4 couples looking like they just dropped in from Bavaria absolutely dancing a very energetic polka. They were followed by 4 folklorico couples with the usual swirling of colors. Not sure why but the local female impersonators showed up and lip synced too many songs. Oh well!

They actually lit the castillo a little after 11 when it's usually midnight or later. Very impressive display and nearly as large as the ones in Melaque. Not quite as ornate but still a great show. What was different was the "errant" rockets that flew thru the crowd making us glad we had moved to the other side of the plaza.

Virgen de Guadalupe dance in Villa Pinal

I was out at the house today puttering around and our local taco lady came over to say her two girls were dancing in the Virgen de Guadalupe dance just down the street. Went over and was offered a seat (old folks you know) and a glass of juice while we watched.

The best I can say about these things is it's a study of indurance. The music doesn't change much, the dance steps do ... but they do this half hour dance a couple times a day over the celebration ... and will join the big parade tonight in Melaque

Things that make her go hmmmmm ...

We went to the grande finale last night of the Señor Monte celebration in Jocotepec. Were waiting outside the church to see them bring out the Christ that would be paraded around town. These two were in close proximity to each other and right next to us. This does not look like approval

... except that at her age. Too funny!!

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
