Virgen de Guadalupe festival in Cihuatlan

Coming back from the airport yesterday Danny and Linda wanted to stop at the bank in Cihua. We found ourselves in the middle of the Virgen de Guadalupe festival. I parked up by the church and Lorena took the camera and the kids to get a closer look. Boom, boom boom was the dancing music and the very large and loud church bells started to compete. My ears were ringing sitting right next to the church. This is Mexico.

Carritos, comida and Castillo

This will be my last evening in town during the San Patricio festival. We just picked last night as one that would not be too crazy with the amount of people and it was OK. Next week is Benito Juarez's birthday so this weekend is a 3 day "puente" and there will be many people in town.

I'll be witness to the number of tourists headed our way for the 3 day weekend as I was headed to Manzanillo for the 4th time to cancel my Telcel contract that they have told me twice before was canceled. It's just sad to say that the people that work at Telcel don't really care enough to make sure YOU - THE CUSTOMER understand what they are requiring.    Telcel service is generally acceptable and Telcel customer service sucks big time !!!

Finally stopped

Tacos Pedro on Taco Row - nothing special

The same three pinwheels were the whole show

Cicadas - Rainbirds - Chicharras

The Cicada or Rainbird song is something most of us in Mexico are familiar with about this time of year. They crawl out of their hibernation holes not long before the rains and begin the song that some say is calling for the rain to come. There are a number of Chicharra festivals around Mexico this time of year anticipating the rain and it's no coincidence these are music festivals

So the Cicadas (Chicharras) sing in El Limon Jalisco in May, inviting people to come to the hill to bring pitayas.

Gorditas Nata

I took a walk down to the plaza to see what was up with the festivities for Señor Monte, Jocotepec's two week festival. They were still setting the kiddie rides and had not closed all the streets last week. Today all done. I think people are out during the day (and Sunday) because it's pretty damned chilly here at night. Lots of people.

This is the first time I've seen Gorditas Nata and asked what they were and then to make sure - ordered three. A little sweet, kinda like pancakes but they don't rise. She flips them 4-5 times leaving just a sliver of uncooked dough in the middle. Moist and tasty!

Surfing road trip down highway 200

This video is about a surfing road trip down highway 200 with the first stop at Arroyo Seco about 45 minutes north of where I live in Melaque. Pascuales Colima is their next stop - and although the surf does not look great, they are just in time for a local festival. Following stop is Michoacan and playa Rio Nexpa for some good waves and hammock time.

Nicely done video and sure feels like Mexico.

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
