Cerveza de San Miguel

If you need a brewpub beer in San Miguel this is the place. We stopped by for a few on our way back from Dolores Hidalgo. Went again later one evening because we heard there was music. A lighting storm took out the power 3 times so out came the candles, the music became acoustic while they ran to flip the breakers back on. Good pizza and Pale Ale but not up to Seattle brewpub standards. Something different

Street scenes of San Miguel

San Miguel is definitely a walking town in El Centro where the Colonial construction is preserved. I stayed with Ron and Dora who live across from Mercado San Juan de Dios about 8 blocks from the center of town (toward the bus station). Most of the downtown area is pretty flat and I wasn't interested in walking the hills to the south despite the views

Lots of flowery prose written about San Miguel on tourist sites but it's not that different from other mature Mexican cities although maybe a little more condensed. Lots of shops to stick your head into and reminded me a bit of Tlaquepaque. Did I say a bit yuppy

Monroe Washington - NE of Seattle

Staying with family while doing my up-north yearly business. Was out seeing the country today while waiting for the wheels to turn and trying the new camera.

A little over two weeks ago I spent a week with friends in San Miguel. Impressive city but lots of gringos and very touristy. We spent time in the country by the lake, visited three balnearios, spend a day in Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo.

12 hours back to Melaque to find my house had been broken into and enough of my computer pieces taken that I couldn't work with or upload any fotos. That kind of stuff also kills the positive spirit so I just spend the week before heading north repairing the house and adding more security. Another week or two here and back to the tropics

San Miguel on the horizon?

Sad to announce there is a thief in the family that got away with a significant amount of money that was here to pay for materials and labor on the house. In the family because they used keys, disrupted nothing else ... only going for the money.

Going to take some time to reevaluate the relationship and generally get past the emotions of this. We will finish up the septic tank which was just a hole and would collapse in the rain .... and then pack it in for awhile.

So after emailing Ron in San Miguel, who knows the family, he suggested a getaway. They have an unused room and I've never been to that part of Mexico. Sounds like a great idea and may have fotos and notes from there in a few weeks. Life goes on !!
The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
