Fiesta de Bautizo

Mi Bautizo (baptism) is what the card the neighborhood kids gave me because one of their moms would have a baby in a few days. At least that's what they used for an excuse for a fiesta. The card was actually from last May for another Bautizo at the church.

Why me? Because I have fruit for the pinata, maybe a gift and some money for globos (balloons). I let the kids in the yard to get some limones (limes) and guayabas then they noticed the ciruela (plum) tree. We had to place a ladder against the wall to get the ciruelas and nobody fell!! The ciruelas were just turning red so this is the first time I tried them. Very large pits.

They needed the balloons for decoration but also for the game of gallina where everyone ties a balloon around their ankle and take turns trying to stomp on the other persons balloon. Kinda like chicken fighting.

They also needed me for duct tape to make the pinata. Problem was it was so strong it wouldn't break so it was decided to throw the prizes off the a neighbor's roof. Not good for the fruit as they exploded on impact except for the limes. They did make a good cleanup crew using every broom in the neighborhood.

Trip to Scorpion Island

La Isla de los Alacranes

Bill bought a "speed boat" a few months ago and has been working on the steering and controls. He actually just bought the boat and trailer and had to match it up with a motor he had. He launched it a few days ago and it's moored in the Chapala public boat harbor. So because I'm heading for the coast soon he wanted to give me a ride.

Pretty bumpy ride for a light boat over the waves. Most everything else on the lake are heavy pangas that plow thru the waves. Smoother coming back with the wind.

Every little restaurant of about 8 has their own moorage/dock. Someone comes out to help you tie up. They know you want to look around the island so they offer to take your meal order and have it ready when you get back. The island is not very long and is narrow but because of the lake level we couldn't make it to the east end. Meal was just OK but a nice setting.

Journey through the History of Mexico

Viaje por la Historia de México -- Just got my copy today. I'm not sure how far 27 million copies will go.

Travel through the history of Mexico, a work created by Luis Gonzalez y Gonzalez, is a book that the Federal Government will send to all Mexican households under the Bicentennial of Independence and the Centennial of the Revolution.

The publication, distributed on the occasion of the celebrations of 2010 , will exceed 27 million copies. Contains 68 pages , is made on bond paper and divided into 30 chapters.

Travel through Mexico's history opens with an introduction by President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, after which includes the presentation written by Luis González y González. This work will be distributed by the Mexican Postal Service for which the figure is taken from INEGI of 27 million households in Mexico.

The book is divided into 30 periods of our national history that range from pre-Hispanic cultures of Mesoamerica until the end of the twentieth century. Other topics that appear in the book are the consummation of Independence and the first Empire, the U.S. invasions , the Reformation, the French intervention and the Republic renovated, Benito Juárez and Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada.

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
