Keeping the dust down

Watering the street is such a common pastime around here after months of no rain I thought it would have caught the attention of another blogger or photographer. I Googled every phrase I could thing of and not a photo or story to be found. I did find a few using mojando calle.

My neighbor and I take turns watering the street between us, morning and afternoon. We are lucky enough to have good water pressure so use a hose. Many places people throw buckets of water in the street. It's a great time to socialize with passerby's or tease the kids with a squirt of the hose. Last night my neighbor Lorena volunteered so I took my own photo. I hope Google appreciates that ;)

Funny you should post this. I was drafting a short essay for publication later in the week. But you beat me to the punch.

Well don't let mine stop you. Room enough for all in this department

This Mexican tradition makes no sense whatsoever. It keeps the dust down for a few minutes. Then the sprinkle dries, and you're right back to where you were in the first place. People do it because they've always done it. Tossing oil out there would work. Water, no.

Well if it shaded in early evening it does last for a few hours .... but I do agree it's a rather hopeless task

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
