Beach rocks

I quit early today after digging a foundation (only three bricks high) for the new 'sidewalk' (banqueta) that will surround the house. Have to aim the water away from the house and also just cover some of the dirt that I have lived with for the last three years. Cement, grass and garden will be much nicer than what I have. Placing rocks in the sidewalk somehow is the idea but we don't have a firm plan.

So I've been collecting rocks from all the digging we've been doing and have quite a pile but they aren't that pretty. My workers suggested going to the beach for rocks with lots to choose from ... and there are lots.

I sat there with my bucket and just enjoyed the afternoon, the ocean and the breeze

Dirtiest kid in the world

Three kids came by my place the other day after playing in the mud up the street. All covered but I think little sister got the worst of it. She wasn't all that happy but still stopped for the foto.

Basic housing in Mexico

I drove out to the dam on the Marabasco river behind Cihuatlan the other day as some friends were spending the afternoon cooling off in the river on someones birthday. Turns out they were there but on the other side of the river and I didn't feel like a crossing the "spillway" adventure so I missed them.

The dam creates irrigation ditches on either side of the valley, one for Colima and one for Jalisco. Along the canals well past Cihuatlan are a number of very basic housing situations that grabbed my attention on the way back. Some of the most basic housing I have seen in Mexico.

Muchos babies in Pinal Villa

Yesterday was the fiesta of chicharron and carnitas of the pig seen on the previous post. Also lots of beer and loud rancho music. Saturday we quit work at 2 so we showered at my place and headed over with 4 buckets of beer. Jimmy, Sandy and I were the only gringos. Lots of dancing and playing with the kids. A bunch of great people whom I'm lucky to have as neighbors.

Pig Pile

There's gonna be a fiesta and feed this Saturday in my neighborhood and what do country people do, kill an animal and cook it. This guy was listed as missing a few days ago and somehow ended up in a fenced lot behind my neighbors. The call went out to everyone to help corral this screamer (they do scream and snort) so we took a work break and I took the camera.

I actually thought this was slaughter time and had ruled out video to avoid the gore ... but this was just a pig chase. Could have made a good video but maybe next time. This chase lasted 15-20 minutes

Cornered ... I don't think so

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
