Street scenes of San Miguel

San Miguel is definitely a walking town in El Centro where the Colonial construction is preserved. I stayed with Ron and Dora who live across from Mercado San Juan de Dios about 8 blocks from the center of town (toward the bus station). Most of the downtown area is pretty flat and I wasn't interested in walking the hills to the south despite the views

Lots of flowery prose written about San Miguel on tourist sites but it's not that different from other mature Mexican cities although maybe a little more condensed. Lots of shops to stick your head into and reminded me a bit of Tlaquepaque. Did I say a bit yuppy

Gracias .... even with my old cameras.

One of the benefits of larger towns is they have pawn shops. I wandered into one there and they had four older Sony's. I picked up one similar to mine for 300 pesos that I originally paid $400us+. The batteries were dead and mine uses the same ... and this one was not corroded by beach salt air

The construction of the house finished in April 2011 and I'm pretty much settled in. As of March 2014 I'm in preparation for rain mode for this coming summer. That includes sealing and painting things and dealing with drainage issues from last year.
